Guzoo Animal Farm
In 1990 the GuZoo became a licensed zoo under the government of Alberta and has since grown to become Canada's largest private zoo in Canada. With over 400 animals to see and enjoy, covering 80 acres, there is something here for the whole family. It boasts a snack shop, and museum of farm antiques, camping site with picnic area and fire pits. The GuZoo Animal Farm is located in Three Hills, Alberta, Canada. A family ran country zoo that takes in abandoned animals from all walks of life. Last year they took in 500 cats and more then 200 dogs. They have taken in animals from the movie industry, animals from people who can't look after them any more, that's not to mention the guinea pigs, lamas, rabbits and the list goes on. Many of the animals on exhibit are animals that were surrendered to GuZoo, who then provides a place for them to live out the rest of their lives. They are also a drop off center to hundreds of unwanted pets each year.http://theguzoo.blogspot.com/New arrivals include six Black and White Ruffed Lemurs, indigenous to Madagascar, they eat mostly fruit and greens. The Lemurs previous family was not able to continue to look after them and the fine folks at Guzoo gave them a new home."A farmer in Medicine Hat is giving 32 llamas to Guzoo. Costs to feed these animals was too high for their owner and the farmer was faced with exterminating of the herd. As an alternative, he called Guzoo and asked if the zoo could give them a home." And the good folks agreed to home the llamas where they can live out the rest of their lives in comfort and safety.Tee, the Bangel Tiger is eight years old and a retired movie star.Guzoo now has a captive breeding program for the rare New Guinea Singing Dogs.We have Hoot- the Great Horned Owl. GuZoo was contacted by a rehabilitation center to give "hoot" a home. A permanent injury to his wing has left him flightless and unable to return to the wild. The rehabilitation center asked them to give him a home for the rest of his life.Louise the brown black bear has been a long time resident to the GuZoo. Orphaned as a cub in 1994, the Alberta Fish and Wildlife gave Louise to them to care for.Jerry the Mountain Lion was given to them by a animal trainer who decided Jerry was lovable but not suitable as a movie actor. Jerry will be looked after for the remainder of his life.At the front gates you should see the numerous basset hound dogs roaming around. It's quite a sight to see. Each of the basset hounds was given to the Guzoo for safe keeping. When it comes to animals, the people at the Guzoo are as fine hearted as anyone I have ever met. I encourage all of you to check them out for yourself. Location and times are at the link below.http://www.guzooforever.com/home.html.
